About the job

Our client, a leading international charity, is seeking an experienced Interim Sanctions Lawyer to support a key international project.

The role will involve advising on sanctions and regulatory matters in a heavily sanctioned jurisdiction, assessing compliance risks and providing practical guidance to support business decision-making.

Key Details

  • Rate: £Day Rate DOE
  • Working Pattern: Full-Time
  • Location: Remote

Key Responsibilities

  • Sanctions Advice: Advising on the sanctions and regulatory framework applicable to operations in a heavily sanctioned jurisdiction
  • Legal Research: Conducting legal research into relevant sanctions regimes and associated regulatory requirements
  • Regulatory Assessment: Assessing the impact of US, UK and other applicable sanctions on proposed activities
  • Stakeholder Guidance: Advising stakeholders on permissible activities, restrictions and associated compliance considerations
  • Compliance Frameworks: Identifying governance measures, oversight frameworks and compliance requirements necessary to support operations
  • Policy Development: Drafting practical guidance, policies and internal briefing materials
  • Project Support: Working closely with operational and programme teams to support project planning and implementation
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Supporting engagement across the organisation and potentially with regional stakeholders
  • Risk-Based Advice: Providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice to support informed decision-making
  • Independent Delivery: Managing a varied workload with minimal supervision

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with significant experience advising on international sanctions matters
  • Strong understanding of US, UK and international sanctions regimes, with experience navigating complex sanctions frameworks
  • Experience advising international organisations, NGOs, multinational organisations or highly regulated businesses
  • Experience working with charities/NGOs/NFP highly desirable but not essential
  • Ability to analyse complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical operational guidance
  • Experience drafting policies, procedures and compliance guidance
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality advice within tight timeframes
  • Experience supporting operations in higher-risk jurisdictions would be advantageous
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal accuracy, compliance requirements and operational objectives
