Relationship Director – Emerging Markets (Supranational, Sovereigns, and Agencies Sector Coverage)
London‑based client‑relationship manager responsible for building and maintaining profitable relationships with sovereign, development bank, multilateral, and supranational clients across Emerging Markets in Africa and South‑East Asia. The role requires deep industry expertise, rigorous risk assessment, and strong business development focus to deliver tailored solutions and support the bank’s product and portfolio strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and understand the client’s financial goals, risk tolerance, and cash‑flow profile to support investment analysis and recommendation.
- Research industry trends, regulatory landscape, and competitive environment to inform strategic solutions.
- Design customised investment and financing solutions incorporating the bank’s range of products and services.
- Communicate value propositions, justify recommendations, and negotiate terms that benefit both client and bank.
- Provide expert investment, risk‑management, and wealth‑management advice to support client decisions and monitor market trends.
- Assess financial, legal, and operational risks associated with client relationships and implement measures to minimise potential losses.
- Document all client interactions, transactions, and agreements to ensure transparency and auditability.
- Monitor client satisfaction, revenue, and other relevant metrics to evaluate relationship effectiveness.
- Lead business development and client acquisition efforts through industry presence, networking, and partnership building.
- Adhere to global and market standards of client service, product delivery, and operating model compliance.
- Maintain all standards of compliance, risk management, and market conduct as required by the bank’s Risk & Control agenda.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive client coverage experience covering sovereigns, development banks, multilateral financial institutions, and supranational banks.
- Technical knowledge including financial statement analysis, credit analysis, loan/trade origination, and deal execution.
- Familiarity with Sovereign Debt Sustainability assessments and OECD Sustainable Lending Practices.
- Strong product knowledge of corporate and investment banking services to prepare marketing materials and pitch decks.
- Proven ability to execute transactions, manage deal teams, and complete documentation and closing efficiently.
- Experience in a highly regulated financial environment with a keen awareness of risk, controls, and governance.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Credit risk management expertise with completion of risk accreditation within 12 months of appointment.
- High mobility and willingness to undertake significant visits to client premises.
- London‑based with a minimum of four days on‑site per week in the UK office.
- Mandatory regulatory qualification as required by PRA & FCA regulatory framework.
