Clinical Support Assistant

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Band 4 Clinical Support Assistant to join the Community Mental Health Team in Coventry, working with patients with both psychotic and non-psychotic presentations. The team operates from a Coventry base, with clinical work carried out in the office and in patients’ homes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver evidence‑based psychoeducation and mental health skills in individual sessions, home‑based work, clinic appointments and occasional group interventions.
• Hold a defined caseload of suitable patients, providing interventions aligned with best practice and identified patient needs.
• Participate in routine triage of referrals, assessing referral information, identifying appropriate care pathways and contributing to the efficient management of waiting lists.
• Work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team, while demonstrating confidence and reliability working independently.
• Maintain professional boundaries, understand scope of practice and seek guidance when appropriate.
• Organise time effectively and prioritise a varied workload.
• Use a vehicle (full UK driving licence required) to attend appointments in the community.

Qualifications

• Foundation degree in Health or Health and Social Care or psychology, including Assistant practitioner or currently undertaking the course; or equivalent skills and knowledge gained in practice.
• Experience in community mental health care.
• Experience of working effectively to support people in distressed states, including significant mental health needs, challenging behaviour or offending behaviour.
• Awareness of current good practice in the care of people with mental health, dementia or challenging behaviour.
• Knowledge and experience of person‑centred approaches to care.
• Understanding of health and safety issues and confidentiality.
• Knowledge of the application of psychological skills (e.g., anxiety management, graded exposure, emotional regulation, mood management) and evidence of their use in practice.

Contract and Salary

Band 4. Permanent, full‑time contract. Salary £28,392 to £31,157 per annum.
