Job Overview

Key Plant Automation Ltd is a leading provider of innovative automation solutions, specialising in advanced welding, positioning and robotic systems.

We are seeking an experienced Paint Prepper / Fettler to join our production team. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing fabricated components and machine parts for painting and finishing, ensuring high‑quality standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal surfaces using sanders, grinders and other hand or power tools.
  • Fettle, clean and smooth fabricated components to remove weld spatter and surface imperfections.
  • Mask components to protect critical areas prior to paint application.
  • Carry out visual checks and surface inspections to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area.
  • Assist with movement of components within the paint area (training provided if required). Follow all company health and safety procedures.
  • Use overhead cranes and FLTs to move workpieces safely throughout the working areas.

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience as a Paint Prepper, Fettler or Surface Finisher, ideally within a fabrication or engineering environment.
  • Confident in using a range of hand tools and power tools such as grinders, orbital sanders.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high‑quality work.
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team in a busy workshop environment.
  • Reliable, punctual and safety‑conscious.
  • Honesty and reliability.
  • Familiarity with precision engineering manufacturing environments.
  • Adaptability and self‑sufficiency.
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy.

Hours of Work

  • Monday – Thursday 8am – 5pm
  • Friday 7:30am – 4pm

Holiday Entitlement

20 days + 8 bank holidays + 1 birthday holiday. The company has a shutdown over the Christmas period.
