Job Description:

Make a Lasting Impact – Join WillisPalmer as a Family Support Worker

WillisPalmer is looking for skilled, independent Family Support Workers to join our growing network, supporting families in Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire. This is an opportunity to play a vital role in helping children thrive by guiding parents, strengthening family bonds, and promoting safe, nurturing home environments.

Role Overview

You’ll provide hands‑on support to families experiencing challenges in parenting, from caring for newborns to navigating teenage years. Your role will involve offering practical advice on safe care and positive parenting, building parents’ skills, and promoting children’s welfare.

Many of the families you work with will have children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, or Care Proceedings — meaning a thorough understanding of safeguarding practices is essential.

This is a self‑employed, assignment‑based role, perfect for experienced professionals who want flexible, meaningful work. We currently require Family Support Workers with day & night availability with shifts lasting up to 12 hours.

What We Offer

  • Working patterns to suit your availability
  • Travel allowance for assignments
  • 24/7 on‑call advice and support from our experienced team
  • Personal safety equipment, including a lone worker alarm

Your Skills & Experience

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification (or equivalent)
  • 12 months’ direct experience supporting parents, children, or young people
  • Strong reliability, punctuality, and communication skills
  • The ability to use MS Teams for remote sessions
  • Confidence to work independently and engage with other professionals such as social workers

Important to Know

  • This is not a salaried position — you must operate via a limited company or a UK‑based umbrella company (no sole traders)
  • An Enhanced DBS check, professional reference from a child‑focused role, and verification of qualifications/ID will be required
  • We follow NSPCC Safer Recruitment practices to maintain the highest safeguarding standards
