EAL Coordinator & SEN Support

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicatedEAL Coordinator & SEN Support to play a key role in driving outstanding provision for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is committed to removing barriers to learning, raising achievement, and championing the progress of vulnerable learners across the school.
The Role
Working closely with the SENCO, you will lead and coordinate EAL provision while supporting the wider inclusion agenda. You will have a direct impact on student outcomes through targeted interventions, staff development, data analysis, and collaborative work with teachers, families, and external agencies.
You will be responsible for identifying students’ needs, ensuring effective support is in place, and helping to create an inclusive learning environment where all pupils can succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Student Progress
- Deliver targeted EAL, ESOL, and SEN interventions to individuals and small groups.
- Assess EAL learners on entry and track language acquisition and academic progress.
- Monitor the attainment and progress of EAL learners and other vulnerable groups.
- Identify achievement gaps and implement strategies to improve outcomes.
- Support transition arrangements for new arrivals and vulnerable learners.
- Lead assessments for in-year admissions where appropriate.
Inclusion and Provision
- Work alongside the SENCO to develop and review provision for students with SEN and EAL.
- Maintain EAL registers, learner profiles, and provision records.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews, provision mapping, and annual review processes.
- Liaise with families to ensure they are fully informed and engaged in their child’s progress.
- Coordinate GCSE Home Language entries and support examination access arrangements where appropriate.
Leadership and Staff Development
- Support teachers in adapting learning to meet the needs of EAL and SEN learners.
- Share best practice and deliver CPD focused on inclusive teaching strategies.
- Conduct learning walks, book scrutinies, and quality assurance activities focused on inclusion.
- Support the development and appraisal of teaching assistants.
- Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation and improvement planning.
Partnership Working
- Build effective relationships with external agencies, including Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, ESOL services, and other specialist providers.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, governors, and partner schools to secure the best outcomes for students.
The Ideal Candidate

- Has experience working with SEN and/or EAL learners.
- Is passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for vulnerable students.
- Has excellent communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills.
- Can analyse data effectively and use it to inform interventions and support.
- Has experience delivering targeted interventions and supporting student progress.
- Is committed to professional development and staying informed of best practice.
