Job Overview

Provide a high‑quality, comprehensive financial advisory service to the Trust’s management teams on all aspects of income and activity, focusing on large and high‑risk budgets. Support the Head of Income and Costing by developing and maintaining finance and information systems, managing Service Level Agreements with NHS commissioners, and ensuring accurate reporting and reconciliation of income and activity.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage routine production and reporting of finance and activity values for all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with NHS commissioners.
  • Develop and maintain finance & information systems, processes, databases, spreadsheets and reports that support invoicing, debt control and SLA monitoring.
  • Support the Head of Costing & Income in calculation of contract prices and provide data for SLA negotiations and monitoring.
  • Reconcile Trust income & activity with the SUS data, agreeing charges and refunds as appropriate.
  • Review and maintain financial coding in the general ledger to ensure proper income coding.
  • Produce financial projections and forecasts to support realistic budget planning.
  • Maintain relationships with ICBs, CSUs and other commissioning bodies; liaise regularly to reconcile SLAM data and minimise data queries.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with NHS financial regime changes, national policy and regulations, and communicate issues to relevant staff.
  • Support the development of community‑based clinical services with appropriate activity and currencies for commissioners.
  • Assist in the development of financial policies, procedures and modelling spreadsheets for PbR/NTPS and costing.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Accountancy qualification.
  • Significant experience in an NHS income/commissioning finance team, or equivalent SQL experience in an information, performance or BI team.
  • Highly numerate, evidence of academic qualifications.
  • Experience working within an NHS organisation for several years.

Knowledge

  • Strong analytical and database skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of NHS finance, PbR/NTPS, and national costing models.
