Grounds & Gardens Maintenance Operative

North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a grounds and gardens operative to join our estates department. The successful candidate will support the Head Gardener in delivering an efficient, cost‑effective and quality grounds maintenance service across all Trust premises and any premises that the Trust has responsibility for. The role requires multi‑site working, as well as working with and supporting other trades and contractors where required.

This is an exciting time to join the estates team, with new systems being implemented. There is real opportunity to help shape our service delivery, in line with Trust values, to provide an outstanding healthcare environment for our patients.

You will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, operating in a busy, fast‑paced environment that provides a diverse workload. You will have the support and opportunities through training to develop new skills to enhance your personal development.

Main duties of the job

To undertake reactive and planned preventive maintenance works across the Trust’s premises, including mowing, strimming, weedkilling, planting, pruning, litter collection, landscaping, maintaining courtyards and enhanced garden areas, general site tidy and removal tasks, minor groundwork tasks and general upkeep of the sites external grounds and gardens.

The role supports multi‑skilled trades on a range of maintenance works and is expected to carry out a limited range of unsupervised skilled tasks and utilise the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system and other specialist software to ensure a joined‑up quality service is delivered.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of amenity horticulture in either domestic or public service areas
  • Experience of using tractors, gardening tools and equipment
  • Demonstrable experience in a healthcare or public

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Good communication and IT skills
  • Be able to collect a variety of litter and dispose of appropriately

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent grounds maintenance qualification or equivalent experience
  • To hold a current UK driving licence
  • Approved pesticide application – PA1 & PA6
