Overview
Apprenticeship opportunity in fire risk management within Newcastle City Council. The role involves carrying out fire risk assessments, providing fire risk management advice across the Council’s diverse property portfolio, and delivering fire safety training to internal and external clients. The position requires travel to sites within the Newcastle area and offers flexible and hybrid working from home with an office base at Newcastle Civic Centre.
Responsibilities
- Carry out fire risk assessments and provide fire risk management advice across the Council’s property portfolio.
- Deliver fire safety training to internal and external clients.
- Travel to sites typically within the Newcastle area.
- Work with the Corporate Health & Safety team in a supportive apprenticeship capacity.
What you will need
- Keen to explore a career in fire safety risk management.
- Level 2 qualifications in Maths & English (equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C or above), as a minimum.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and IT literate.
- Previous knowledge of fire safety risk management would be advantageous.
What you will receive in return
- Undertaking a Level 3 Fire Safety Advisor Apprenticeship Qualification.
- The role is full time (37 hours per week) for a fixed term period of 18 months.
- Apprentices are paid a percentage of the salary for the role the apprentice is working towards, at least National Minimum Wage and increasing with experience.
- This apprenticeship works towards the full role of Fire Safety Officer with an entry salary of £36,363 and a year 2 salary of £37,280.
- In year 1 you will be paid 60% of the salary rate, or NMW, whichever is higher; in year 2 you will be paid 65% of the salary rate, or NMW, whichever is higher.
- Apprentices are supported to apply for suitable vacancies after completing the apprenticeship.
