Staff Position: Senior Support Worker – Imaging (Band 3, NVQ level 2)

Location: Royal Preston Hospital, Town Preston (also Sharoe Green Unit, Preston Healthport, Chorley District Hospital and main X‑ray department)

Type of Contract: Permanent, Part time – 22.5 hours per week (includes weekend working)

Salary: £25,760 – £27,476 per annum (pro rata)

Job Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic person to join our Imaging team as a Senior Support Worker. The role focuses on supporting ultrasound examinations, maintaining equipment readiness, accurate patient records and assisting in minor procedures while working collaboratively with doctors, advanced practitioners and radiographers.

Main Duties

  • Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with local and national standards.
  • Undertake stock duties to ensure correct stock levels for ultrasound procedures.
  • Undertake duties relevant to the clinical area following achievement of competencies.
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, confirming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, clean and productive environments, compliant with hygiene and cleanliness standards.
  • Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and report outcomes to line manager.
  • Maintain and develop own competence.
  • Process information according to local and national requirements.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

  • GCSE in English and Mathematics – grade C/4 or above OR Level 2 Functional Literacy & Level 2 numeracy skills.
  • NVQ Level 2 Care or Equivalent (work towards level 3 within 18 months of appointment).
  • Basic IT skills.
  • NVQ Level 3 in care (preferred).
  • Care Certificate.
  • Evidence of Continued Personal Development & Self‑reflection.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Aware of confidentiality concept and application.
  • Able to demonstrate Health & Safety awareness.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of a Band 3 assistant.
  • Knowledge & understanding of medical terminology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Experience of working with the public and customer care skills.
  • Previous experience in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Understanding of imaging procedures.
  • Evidence of working at Band 2/3 in a caring environment.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound terminology, procedures and interventions.
  • Previous experience working in a radiology setting.
