Overview

JD Sports Fashion Plc is a leading omni-channel retailer of Sports Fashion, Outdoors and Gyms. The Merchandiser plays a key role within the Merchandising function, providing support to the Merchandising team to achieve optimum efficiency and to deliver the department plan on customer, sales, and profit. The Merchandiser is responsible for ensuring the right stock and intake is available for customers, while working collaboratively within the Merchandising team and key areas of the business. The Merchandiser is also responsible for leading and managing a team.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy: Create, evaluate and analyse historical packs to identify opportunities, risks and missed potential. Drive own department strategy aligning with wider business goals. Share analysis in brand meetings to support decision making. Collaborate with Buying to decide department direction.
  • Plan: Build and accurately complete the product mix pack. Create sign-off packs, manage critical path, and own planning of key brands. Present in product mix and sign-off meetings. Maintain central planograms and range plans. Update scheduling grading and size mapping to MADS tools. Load departmental plans into the WSSI after product mix.
  • Order: Ensure teams use the central MADS ratio tool to maintain accurate ratios. Oversee analysis and reconciliations. Ensure POs are split to minimise duty, using historical analysis and planograms to check buy plan and compare sales to buy by DC.
  • Stock: Manage department intake plans and identify key bookings. Identify over/under stock issues and potential cancellations or free stock opportunities. Ensure orderbooks align to sign-offs.
  • Trade: Create department weekly trade updates for SMT. Use reporting to review performance, identify trading actions and create new reports. Lead and participate in weekly trade meetings and collaborate with Trading, Digital, and VM teams to drive trading actions.
  • Exit: Create departmental plans on seasonal product trading. Manage terminal stock for department/brands.
  • Stores: Create quarter range plans and support ranges in stores. Analyse store/area performance and guide store actions. Ensure new store builds meet deadlines and planned option counts. Conduct store visits and share feedback.
  • Management & Leadership: Drive and develop the team, provide training as required. Review processes and conduct regular 1:1s.
  • Role objectives and KPIs: Support the Merchandising team to deliver departmental goals and KPIs across stores and digital channels—sales, profit and stock.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Analytical, data-driven and highly numerate with strong Excel knowledge.
  • Strategic thinker with independent decision-making ability and justification for decisions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building at all levels. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage data accurately and enter data reliably.
  • Curious with a continuous learning mindset.

  • GUI, Shogun, Advanced Excel
  • Trade knowledge, product mix and sign-off pack creation, historical analysis packs
  • Size ratios, size mapping, planner (planogram), range plan, central brand matrix
  • WSSI, PO process, intake management, weekly price and markdown processes
