Highly Specialist CAMH Occupational Therapist
West London CAMHS (WL CAMHS) provides specialist mental health services for children and young people. This role delivers comprehensive assessments, risk management, and evidence‑based interventions. The work is part of a multidisciplinary team with clinicians, therapists, nurses, and psychologists, and partner agencies in health, education, and social care.
Main duties of the job
- Provide advanced mental health support and treatment for children and young people.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments, including risk assessments and development of risk management plans.
- Deliver specialist interventions for young people presenting with acute, complex, long‑standing, or severe mental health difficulties.
- Work in partnership with children, young people, families, carers, and significant others.
- Liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies to develop effective multi‑agency networks and ensure coordinated, appropriate, and timely support.
- Provide accessible, high‑quality care that is sensitive to cultural, ethnic, religious, contextual, family, and developmental needs.
- Promote mental health, wellbeing, resilience, and personal and family growth through collaborative goal‑setting and person‑centred practice.
- Utilise appropriate evidence‑based treatment approaches and resources to support positive outcomes.
- Offer specialist advice and consultation to professionals across primary care, social care, and education.
- Provide support, clinical supervision, and teaching to staff and students.
Qualifications
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification with additional therapeutic qualifications.
- Supplemented by other specialist training and short courses.
- Current professional registration: HCPC.
- Evidence of accredited courses in child and adolescent mental health practice.
- Relevant post‑graduate qualification in a mental‑health related field.
- Qualifications and training in specialist skills such as systemic therapies, CBT, family intervention, and evidence‑based group work (e.g., DBT).
Experience
- Demonstrable experience of assessment and therapeutic work with children, adolescents, and their families.
- Experience in a range of mental‑health settings.
- Experience with occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and outcome measures.
- Experience working in diverse settings: assertive outreach, clinic‑based, home, school, or other appropriate environments.
- Experience in inter‑agency and multidisciplinary working.
- Experience assessing risk and formulating safe and effective risk‑management plans.
- Experience teaching other professionals.
- Qualification or experience using sensory integration as a therapeutic modality.
- Experience managing child protection emergencies.
- Experience in therapeutic work with children and families where abuse or neglect has occurred.
- Experience in audit and/or research.
- Experience contributing to and implementing new service developments.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of legislation relevant to the Children’s Act 2004, Mental Health Act 1983, and Safeguarding Guidelines.
- Sound working knowledge and application of the relevant professional code, e.g., RCOT Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of consent and capacity issues in children and young people.
- Awareness and understanding of the challenges facing children, adolescents, and their families.
- Skills and sensitivity working with difficult to engage families.
- Ability to deal with challenging behaviour in possibly distressing situations.
- Experience working with neurodiversity.

Salary: £63,665 to £70,887 per annum, inclusive.
