Manufacturing Process Engineer

Location: Near Luton (Bedfordshire) | Salary: Up to £55,000 + Bonus + Benefits | Contract: Permanent, Full-Time, On-site | Company: Global Engineering & Manufacturing Group

Overview

Join a world‑leading manufacturer where you will take ownership of improving how products are built across machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly. You will analyse processes, remove bottlenecks, reduce waste, and increase throughput using modern Lean and CI methodologies. This is a hands‑on, data‑driven role with real influence on quality, efficiency, and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Lean and CI initiatives across the shop floor (Kaizen, SMED, DMAIC, 5S, VSM)
  • Develop and optimise end‑to‑end processes in machining (CNC, milling, turning), welding/fabrication, and mechanical assembly
  • Introduce standardised work, visual management, and robust process controls
  • Implement Poka‑Yoke and error‑proofing solutions
  • Support NPI activities from prototype through to volume manufacture (DFM/DFA, build plans, SOPs)
  • Specify, commission, and validate new tooling, jigs, fixtures, equipment, and test systems
  • Lead process‑focused cost reduction projects and value engineering activities
  • Prepare CapEx justifications including ROI/NPV/payback analysis
  • Work with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to deliver process improvements

Qualifications

Essential

  • HND/Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or related engineering discipline
  • Background in volume or batch production of engineered products
  • Strong Lean/CI problem‑solving (RCA, 8D, DMAIC) with measured results
  • Understanding of fixtures, tooling, automated assembly, and test systems
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications

Desirable

  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
  • Experience delivering CapEx projects or installing production equipment
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC
