GCSE English Tutor
We have an exciting opportunity for a GCSE English Tutor to deliver GCSE English Language lessons to learners aged 14–19. Ideal for an English Tutor, GCSE English Language Tutor, FE English Tutor or English Teacher with experience supporting GCSE resit learners in Further Education and Adult Education settings.
Salary: £15.40 to £16.43 per hour + benefits.
Location: Chesterfield, Derbyshire, East Midlands – or any of the following areas: Bolsover, Clay Cross, Cotmanhay, Swadlincote.
Job type: Part‑time, Temporary / Relief Work.
Working hours: As required / No guaranteed hours.
Job Overview
You will plan and deliver engaging GCSE English Language classes following the AQA specification for learners aged 14–19. Your role will include supporting resit learners, using inclusive and blended teaching strategies, monitoring progress, and promoting safeguarding, British Values, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Duties
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned to the AQA syllabus.
- Assess learner progress through formative and summative methods.
- Provide developmental feedback and mark work.
- Create inclusive learning environments for diverse learners.
- Prepare lesson plans and teaching materials.
- Support learners’ personal, social, and employability development.
- Maintain accurate records and registers.
- Promote safeguarding practices and contribute to a safe learning environment.
- Undertake professional development and mandatory training.
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote outstanding teaching practices.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Recognised teaching qualification and relevant English subject specialist qualification.
- Previous experience planning, teaching and assessing learners aged 14–19 and/or adults.
- Experience delivering GCSE English Language programmes, including support for resit learners.
- Ability to deliver engaging lessons using blended learning approaches.
- Thorough knowledge of GCSE examination and accreditation requirements.
- Experience providing developmental feedback that supports learner achievement.
- Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and safe learning practices.
- Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and British Values.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with learners, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Competence in using digital technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment.
Desirable
- Experience teaching Skills for Life programmes within adult education.
- Knowledge of learner support issues and progression opportunities.
- Membership of the Society for Education and Training (SET) or similar professional body.
- Aware of health and safety responsibilities in educational settings.
