Transgender Health Clinical Nurse Specialist/NMP – NCTH Network

To provide a defined level of specialist assessment and access to interventions for transgender patients.
The post holder will be part of the transgender health team and act as a Transgender Healthcare Professional within the NHS England national service specification. They will hold a named professional role for patients, undertaking both assessment and follow‑up responsibilities for an identified caseload of transgender and non‑binary patients.
The role involves monitoring gender‑affirming hormone therapy and supporting patients and their families through direct and indirect clinical work. Clinical and managerial leadership skills are required to lead the team, provide clinical supervision, and maintain professional standards. All team members receive appropriate supervision, mandatory training and appraisals, and contribute to the Trust’s continuous professional development processes.
Main duties of the job
Assess, design and implement safe, creative and effective treatment plans in collaboration with patients’ needs, managing a diverse caseload and ensuring a high standard of clinical care.
Work as an independent Non‑Medical Prescriber and a flexible team member, maintaining accurate clinical records and the safe custody of healthcare records.
Support the implementation of team objectives within the multidisciplinary specialist team, keep NMC registration current and meet revalidation requirements.
Maintain patient documentation to NMC standards, contribute to clinical activity and data collection, and provide appropriate support to peers and non‑registered team members.
Comply with best practice directions (WPATH and NICE) and participate in quality initiatives.

Job responsibilities
The Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health offers a blended model of face‑to‑face and video consultations on a busy five‑day schedule, demanding high confidentiality and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities include planning and delivering assessment, care and treatment for transgender patients with direct clinical work, and independent non‑medical prescribing under the support of experienced professionals.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Maintain current registration with the NMC.
- Significant specialist knowledge or post‑registration experience equivalent to Master level underpinned by theory within physical healthcare or formal training and leadership/management.
- Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration.
