The Chelsea Wing at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Sister/Charge Nurse to join their fantastic team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a UK registered nurse with a minimum of three years’ acute hospital setting experience, to deliver exceptional patient‑centred care in a unique private patient setting while enjoying all the benefits of NHS employment.
As a Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a vital leadership role, ensuring our patients receive outstanding care while supporting and guiding our dedicated nursing team. This dynamic position covers both the inpatient Chelsea Wing and the outpatient Westminster Wing, offering a varied and rewarding work environment.
Chelsea Wing is a state‑of‑the‑art, 12‑beded unit providing private medical and surgical care to patients seeking the best treatment and comfort. Adjacent to it, the Westminster Wing offers private outpatient services, running clinics Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
- Lead shifts in both inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
- Oversee daily management of the hospital ward and its staff, providing clinical leadership and ensuring effective management of ward resources.
- Communicate effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence‑led care.
- Act as a role model for the team, ensuring high levels of clinical excellence and compassionate care.
- Assist in the management of resources, staffing and equipment to meet service demands.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior colleagues, fostering professional development.
- Promote clinical excellence and ensure high standards of patient care.
- Enhance patient and customer satisfaction through a commitment to service quality.
- Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff.
- Assist with local or trust initiatives to ensure continuous improvement of service quality and safeguarding high standards of care.
- Ensure awareness of hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure compliance.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care through appropriate frameworks, including safe effective arrangements for discharge.
- Ensure the smooth running of the outpatient clinic, taking all required tests including phlebotomy and assisting with minor procedures and chaperoning.
- Assist team members in the coordination of clinical activities.
- Use clinical standards to monitor and improve the quality of care delivered, ensuring nursing practice is of the highest standard in line with Trust and CQC standards.
- Supply and/or administer medication safely in line with Trust medicines policy.
- Assess and support patients in medication adherence, health promotion and illness prevention.
- Educate patients and their significant others.
- Assist with care evaluation and initiate actions, liaising with the multidisciplinary team when appropriate.
- Review the effectiveness of nursing care and initiate improvements.
- Undertake any reasonable and relevant clinical or non‑clinical functions commensurate with banding.
- Recognise and act on situations detrimental to health and wellbeing.
- Coordinate and support other care team members responsible for specific nursing care aspects.
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents and losses, providing support to staff or patients involved, in line with Trust policy.
- Take on extra duties/responsibilities as delegated and agreed by the department/ward manager or senior staff nurse.

- Manage a group of patients, consistent with experience level.
- Supervise junior team members.
- Take responsibility for ward/department management in the absence of the ward manager when senior enough.
- Demonstrate effective time management and workload prioritisation.
- Actively involve in induction and orientation of new, agency and bank staff.
- Teach and educate pre‑ and post‑registration students as preceptor or mentor.
- Provide leadership and teaching skills, supervising development and feedback of junior staff.
- Supervise procedures and junior staff in practising new skills.
- Assist with resource management within the clinical area, including equipment and supplies.
Communication and Relationship Building

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Registered Nurse on NMC register.
- Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development beyond mandatory training.
- Degree / Diploma in Nursing.
- Mentorship / teaching / assessing course and/or experience.
- ILS Trained.
Experience
- Post‑grad experience in acute hospital setting for a minimum of 3 years.
- Previous experience of taking charge of a clinical area.
- Proven experience in private care setting.
- Ability to utilise pre‑registration experience to demonstrate understanding of relevant settings.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proven clinical skills in relevant area.
- Evidence of self‑development.
- Knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Evidence of commitment to customer care initiatives.
- Awareness of budget implications in relation to clinical care delivery.
- Experience in implementing Quality Improvement Project (QIP) or equivalent.
