Job description

Peterborough College is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in Travel & Tourism to join our faculty on a permanent, part-time basis. The role is ideal for someone currently working in the travel, tourism or hospitality industry who would like to combine their professional career with teaching. With just 7.5 hours per week, the position offers flexibility to work alongside existing commitments while helping learners develop the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the industry.

The Role

In this position, you will deliver high‑quality teaching, assessment, and support to students across a range of Travel & Tourism programmes from Level 1 up to Level 3.

Key Responsibilities as a Travel lecturer:

  • Inspire & Teach: Deliver engaging lessons aligned with Professional Teaching Standards across Levels 1 to 4.
  • Support Student Journeys: Set SMART targets, monitor progress, and provide constructive, timely feedback to motivate learners.
  • Course Development: Collaboratively design and review course materials, schemes of work, and innovative learning resources.
  • Industry & Quality Assurance: Help coordinate work experience placements, liaise with employers, and undertake internal verification duties.
  • Functional Skills: Embed essential English, maths, and digital skills (ILT) within the curriculum to boost employability.
  • College Community: Participate in open evenings, student recruitment, student trips, and team meetings.

Essential Criteria for this Travel Lecturer:

  • Industry Expertise: Comprehensive, recent experience working within the Travel or Tourism industry.
  • Subject Knowledge: In‑depth knowledge of the subject specialism to teach up to Level 4.
  • Teaching & Assessing Qualifications: A Level 5 Teaching Qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, or DET) or willing to work towards one.
  • Subject Qualification: Minimum Level 3/4, HND, Degree, or professional industry qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Core Skills: Minimum Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy, excellent IT skills, and a strong commitment to safeguarding and equality.
