Introduction to the company

My client is a manufacturing and engineering business based in Stockport.

The site runs specialist production equipment, including 30+ CNC machines.

This role has been created for succession planning. The plan is for this person to join as a Maintenance Engineer, learn the site, and progress into a Senior Maintenance Engineer role.

You will join a close-knit maintenance team with strong support from an experienced Senior Engineer.

Role and responsibilities

You will work across planned maintenance, breakdowns, fault finding, projects and site improvements.

  • Carry out PPM across CNC machines and production equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and PLC faults
  • Respond to breakdowns and reduce downtime
  • Support around 30+ CNC machines across the site
  • Work with production teams to keep machines running
  • Assist with machinery installation, commissioning and relocation
  • Support reliability improvement projects
  • Learn site equipment and maintenance processes from the current Senior Engineer
  • Support apprentices and junior team members where needed
  • Liaise with OEMs, contractors and suppliers
  • Help with maintenance planning, contractor coordination and spare parts
  • Take ownership of engineering issues and solve problems hands‑on

Key requirements

  • Multi‑skilled maintenance engineering experience
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Fault‑finding experience across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC‑controlled equipment
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics and technical documents
  • Formal engineering training such as NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent
  • CNC machinery experience would be a big advantage
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers would also help, but it is not essential

Benefits and perks

  • Overtime opportunities
  • Day shift
  • Early finish every Friday
  • Long‑term progression into Senior Maintenance Engineer
  • Support from an experienced Senior Engineer
  • Stable manufacturing environment
  • Close‑knit engineering team
  • Chance to work across CNC machinery and specialist production equipment

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive business as well as getting onto a platform where progression to a more senior role is being specifically targeted.
