What You’ll Be Doing
Lead SPEN’s engagement with GB’s evolving system planning processes (including CSNP and SSEP), ensuring alignment through effective internal frameworks. This role supports the identification and development of future network requirements, enabling delivery of Net Zero commitments. Also responsible for developing high-quality engineering submissions to Ofgem.
- Develop and implement internal policies and processes to align with GB system planning frameworks and licence obligations.
- Represent SPEN in engagement with NESO, Ofgem, other TOs, and industry stakeholders to influence transmission network development.
- Contribute to industry outputs (e.g. FES, ETYS, NOA, Business Plans) and participate in working groups and collaborative initiatives.
- Apply technical and commercial innovation to maximise value and manage risk in planning activities.
- Preparation and coordination of engineering proposals for Ofgem, ensuring compliance and clear justification.
- Ensure all outputs meet governance standards and are supported by robust evidence and engineering rationale.
- Promote safety, quality, and environmental excellence across all activities.
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- Significant experience in system planning, regulatory submissions, or price control frameworks.
- Strong understanding of transmission network design, operation, and equipment characteristics.
- Knowledge of regulatory, technical, and commercial frameworks impacting transmission networks.
- Familiarity with GB industry standards and codes (e.g. NETS SQSS, Grid Code) and ESO/STC processes.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly.
- Proven ability to collaborate across organisations and contribute to strategic infrastructure planning.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree qualified.
- Expert knowledge of the transmission network and its technical challenges.
- Experience engaging with system planning processes and ESO interfaces.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability.
- Ability to produce clear, concise reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
