Business Development Consultant (Clean Energy)

Key Responsibilities
Advance our clean energy business development objectives, driving growth and enhancing market position. Prioritise business development efforts based on market potential in consultation with the Sector Lead and aligned to the clean energy sector plan. Identify, build, and maintain relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders across clean energy markets. Develop and share market intelligence to inform strategic decision‑making and support successful work winning. Identify, track, and manage prospects and opportunities, assess market potential including emerging technologies, geographies, and funding mechanisms, and pursue opportunities with both new and existing clients across sectors and regions.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Good first degree and/or Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in an engineering, energy, environmental science, geography, economics, business and administration or related discipline.
- Experience in business development, client engagement, key account support, or proposal / bid management within a technical consultancy, engineering or professional services environment.
- Understanding of carbon‑based, nuclear and clean energy markets and the commercial and policy drivers shaping investment.
- Commercial awareness and ability to translate technical capability into compelling client propositions, supported by sound judgement on risk, value and resourcing.
- Experience of supporting opportunity pipelines (CRM), interpreting market intelligence, and using data to prioritise effort and guide decision‑making.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for client meetings, conferences and partnership development.
- Understanding of sustainability expectations for consulting businesses, including ethical business, carbon reporting, and responsible supply chains; and commitment to HR Wallingford’s sustainability and transition plans.
- Salary range: £47,504 to £64,807 (dependent on experience).
