Job Description:

The Bridge Academy – a truly exceptional secondary school in South Hackney, committed to ensuring every student can succeed at a good university or equivalent, thrive in their chosen field and live a great life – is seeking a PE Teacher (Plus the Possibility of Additional Responsibility) to start in September 2026 or January 2027 (September start preferred). This is an opportunity to join a strong team of teachers who are passionate about their subject and working with students who are dedicated to their studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering stimulating and challenging lessons which meet the needs of all learners.
  • Delivering consistently good lessons and ensuring students are engaged with and enjoy PE.
  • Raising the attainment of students and promoting PE across the Academy.
  • Maintaining high expectations of students’ behaviour and achievement, and establishing excellent relationships with students.
  • Monitoring and recording the progress of students using Assessment for Learning strategies and Academy assessment policies.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of developments within PE.
  • Working under the direction of the Associate Head of Learning Area to develop the curriculum.
  • Planning, delivering and developing the PE curriculum and enrichment activities.
  • Working with the Associate Head of Learning Area and other subject areas to ensure that PE contributes to the ethos of the Academy and promotes the profile and status of the subject.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of Academy policies and practice, including those designed to promote equality of opportunity.
  • Contributing to the wider life of the Academy through enrichment activities, residential and field trips, and extra-curricular clubs.
  • Building partnerships with parents, community groups, local organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of the Academy’s PE provision.
  • Ensuring PE rooms are purposeful, stimulating and safe learning environments.
  • Engaging with Academy curriculum initiatives, including KS2–KS3 transition, enrichment activities and cross-curricular planning.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant specialist qualifications and experience, with the ability to teach PE up to Key Stage 4 (Key Stage 5 desirable).
  • Commitment to improving practice through reflection, professional development, and openness to advice and feedback.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or relevant research.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of curriculum requirements and developments within PE.
  • Secure knowledge and understanding of Assessment for Learning strategies.
  • Secure knowledge and understanding of effective personalised provision for all students, including those with special educational needs and those for whom English is an additional language.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection, safeguarding procedures, and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice.
  • Ability to motivate students and colleagues and respond to the diverse needs of learners.
  • Ability to design opportunities for learners to develop literacy, ICT and thinking skills within the subject area.
  • Commitment to the Academy’s mission and values, with a strong sense of moral purpose and belief that every child can reach their full potential.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and manage time efficiently.

Salary: Main Pay Scale or Upper Pay Scale (plus the possibility of a TLR point). Subject to any agreed inflationary increase from September 2026.

Contract: Permanent, full-time.
