Hospital Support Assistant – MRI

We are looking for a member of staff to work 6:00 am to 2:00 pm on a rota system, providing support for cleaning and catering duties within the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to National Patient Safety Agency Cleaning and Publicly Available Specification (PAS) by implementing ward cleaning schedules.
  • Carry out spot cleaning of floors, toilets and other areas and respond promptly to spillages using appropriate equipment.
  • Use and store chemicals in accordance with COSHH procedures.
  • Minimise disruption during work procedures.
  • Provide direct beverage service and prepare and serve meals, collecting completed menu cards.
  • Clean ward kitchen, crockery, cutlery and equipment in line with Environmental Health and departmental policies, including operation of dishwashing machines.
  • Maintain high personal hygiene and follow Catering Hygiene Policy/Food Handling Policy, using correct mix ratios in line with COSHH.
  • Clear food and drink spillages promptly and keep patient tables and trays clean and hygienic.
  • Flush little used outlets (LUO) in line with Trust Management of legionella policies.
  • Complete mandatory training within specified timeframes and undertake role‑specific training if required.
  • Demonstrate leadership by supporting new or less experienced staff during induction.
  • Assist patients and clients during contact, addressing communication barriers when necessary.
  • Verbalise patient comments, positive or negative, to line manager or ward staff.
  • Report requisition or maintenance needs for equipment to the appropriate person.
  • Maintain work records including fridge and food temperature checks, cleaning and flushing records, in line with departmental procedure.
  • Participate in audits and surveys, recording faults and reporting them to the appropriate person.

Qualifications and Experience

  • oLevel 1 English & Maths or demonstrated proficiency in spoken English and basic mathematics.
  • Food safety awareness training, or willingness to undertake induction and on‑the‑job training to meet required food safety standards.
  • Previous experience of cleaning or catering within the NHS.
  • General cleaning or catering duties experience.
  • Experience working in an NHS environment or care setting.
  • Experience engaging with customers.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Passion for working within the NHS.
  • Flexibility within the role.
