Collections Assistant – Reading

As a Collections Assistant, you will help with the day‑to‑day cleaning and care of the historic house’s collections of objects, works of art, textiles and furniture. You will keep an eye on environmental conditions and any signs of wear and tear, maintain accurate records, support Collections and House volunteers when needed, and meet visitors to talk about the collections.

We’re looking for someone who loves history, has an eye for detail, is friendly and open with people, and enjoys engaging visitors and presenting the house’s treasures.

Responsibilities

• Clean and care for the house’s collections.
• Monitor environmental conditions and signs of wear.
• Keep accurate records.
• Support Collections and House volunteers.
• Engage visitors and explain the collections.

Qualifications

• Good hand‑to‑eye skills and happy to work from ladders or scaffold towers.
• Comfortable working in a flexible and adaptable way.
• Focused on giving great service to everyone you meet.
• A team player, but also happy to work on your own initiative.
• Well‑organised and versatile.
• Willing to learn new skills.
