Job Description:

McLaughlin & Harvey is a privately owned company with over 170 years of experience, specialising in construction. We provide quality new builds, extensions, refurbishments, fit‑outs, and small works projects across sectors including health, education, commercial, industrial, leisure, sporting, retail and residential.

We are looking for a Bid Manager to enhance our team and drive success across our high value projects via frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a programme of projects in the Pre‑Construction / PCSDA phase
  • Agree the Bid Win Strategy with the Pre‑Construction Director and Bid Director
  • Develop a Bid Programme
  • Organise, chair and attend tender progress meetings, both internal and external
  • Develop a thorough understanding of potential risks and opportunities and ensure the team addresses them respectively
  • Ensure contract documents are thoroughly reviewed and collaborate with Commercial and Estimating teams to understand and agree tender position
  • Ensure Agreed Floor Layouts, User Requirement Document, Functional Requirement Proposal or other Tenant/Employer documents are adequately reflected / captured in the design
  • Research and gain a wider understanding of a scheme
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with the Client
  • Key Account Management
  • Assist with Business Development activities as required
  • Travel as appropriate throughout the UK

Qualifications

  • Preferably degree or equivalent construction or design qualification (CIOB, MAPM, MICE, RICS, etc.)
  • Background in core Bid Management, Pre‑Construction, Planning, Estimating, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Project Management is preferred
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Prior knowledge of Frameworks
  • Experience working with different forms of building contract including JCT, NEC and bespoke
  • Understanding of Target Cosy, two‑stage, single stage and negotiated tendering
  • Confident communicating with colleagues and senior members of management
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Flexibility in approach
  • Strong team ethic
