Safeguarding Officer supporting student welfare, managing safeguarding processes and working with families and agencies.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day safeguarding and child protection processes across the school
- Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSLs
- Respond promptly to safeguarding concerns and referrals
- Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records using CPOMS
- Liaise with students, families, social care, CAMHS, police and other external agencies
- Attend and contribute to child protection conferences, review meetings and multi-agency meetings
- Coordinate referrals and support plans for vulnerable students
- Monitor safeguarding trends and help implement appropriate interventions
- Provide advice and guidance to staff on safeguarding concerns
- Support students and families to access appropriate services and support
- Ensure safeguarding procedures remain compliant with current legislation and guidance, including KCSIE
- Produce reports and documentation as required
- Promote a culture where all students feel safe, supported and able to thrive
- Experience working with children or young people
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
- Strong ICT and record-keeping skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Previous experience in a safeguarding, pastoral, family support, youth work or social care role
- Experience working within a school or educational setting
- Knowledge of statutory safeguarding guidance, including KCSIE
- Experience of multi-agency working and coordinating support for vulnerable children and families
- Experience attending child protection conferences, review meetings or Team Around the Family meetings
- Experience using CPOMS or similar safeguarding management systems
- Relevant safeguarding, child protection or pastoral support qualifications
- Experience producing professional reports and maintaining detailed case records
- Understanding of mental health, attendance and wider barriers to learning
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families and external professionals
- Confidence in challenging and escalating concerns appropriately
- Commitment to continuous professional development and safeguarding best practice
