Responsibilities
Based at Cannington College, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer plays a pivotal role in coordinating wellbeing support for students across the College. The college Residential provision provides accommodation for students aged 16+ studying across any of our College Group. The College’s primary student accommodation is based at the Cannington campus and consists of 211 beds.
Working closely with the Counselling & Safeguarding Team Leader, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer is responsible for triaging referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate support is provided, and maintaining a calm and effective approach under pressure.
This role is central to supporting students – particularly those from vulnerable groups and those within our residential provision – by addressing a wide range of issues that may affect their learning and overall college experience. It will also coordinate and monitor the wellbeing of the college’s residential learners with a specific focus on the under‑18 provision, provide safeguarding support to all students in residential accommodation, and work with students to mentor, self‑assess, agree targets and review progress.
The Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer provides one‑to‑one and group guidance and mentoring, signposting students to internal services or external agencies, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment across the college group.
The working pattern for this post is four working days followed by four rest days, with a shift from 09:00 to 20:40 and one hour lunch.
In addition, the role focuses on engaging residential learners in clubs and compulsory residential sessions to develop personal, social and employability skills.
