Safeguarding Officer

35 hours a week (8.30am – 4.00pm)

Term-time only + 5 training days and 15 days to be on call in the holidays

Permanent Contract

Actual Salary £27,721 – £30,267 (£31,537 – £34,434 FTE) CLPT 18-23 (Salary higher if >5 years continuous service)

Start Date: 1st September 2026

We are an all-age generic special school that takes pupils from the age of 4 to 18 and in 2023 was graded Good by Ofsted.

Responsibilities

The role requires a dedicated person to meet high standards of safeguarding within the school, acting as an initial point of contact for external agencies and providing day‑to‑day guidance and support for staff with safeguarding concerns. The role includes writing and submitting referrals to Local Authority Children’s Services and Early Help assessments, and contributing to CP and CIN plans.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication with pupils, parents, staff and external agencies.
  • Ability to keep calm and work well under pressure.
  • Support the DSL, pastoral team and wider staff body with safeguarding concerns.
  • Professional conduct at all times with a strong understanding of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the varied needs of children as they develop socially and academically.
  • Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils.
  • Experience of working with pupils with complex learning needs within a special school or mainstream, with any age group or transferable skills from a similar setting.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new ideas.
