Company Overview
Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management and development consultancy with over 20,000 employees across more than 50 countries and 140+ offices. We deliver work that defines our future and makes an important societal impact in the communities we serve.
About The Business Unit
We help conceive, drive and implement transport solutions for cities, regions and asset owners/operators worldwide. From business case preparation to delivery and maintenance, our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
Overview Of The Role
We are looking to appoint a Principal Ports Engineer with Defence experience to join the Ports Coastal and Offshore (PCO) Team within our Aviation, Maritime and Offshore (AMO) Division.
Mott MacDonald’s teams support a wide range of clients including the UK Ministry of Defence, NATO and international partners across land, air, maritime and nuclear domains. Recent projects include the modernisation of submarine facilities at Devonport and Clyde, and support for the AUKOS submarine partnership.
The successful candidate will use a high standard of technical capability to deliver maritime sector projects and guide and develop other team members on technical aspects of projects, particularly maritime defence sector opportunities.
Key responsibilities include leading technical infrastructure design projects for dockyards, shipyards and ports – including docks, jetties, dolphins, quay structures, dredging, breakwaters and revetments – and collaborating constructively with colleagues to deliver projects to meet profit, deadlines and output quality targets. You will also contribute to bidding and winning work, applying your knowledge of clients and the technical requirements and risks associated with prospects.
Candidate specification
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (or equivalent)
- Experience working on multi‑disciplinary projects, ideally within Ports, Coastal or Offshore environments
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards
- Strong communication, team‑working and problem‑solving skills
Availability is flexible – part time, job share or full time – to accommodate varying availability. Due to the nature of our work, overseas travel for project assignments may be required.
