Job Summary
An experienced and motivated nurse is needed for the West Wing Clinical Research Centre (WWCRC) at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will coordinate and deliver complex clinical trial protocols, administer standard and investigational treatments, monitor patients, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors, and staff.
- Participate in Trust initiatives around infection control and care quality indicators.
- Assist with local or trust initiatives to continuously improve the quality of services and safeguard high standards of care.
- Countercheck patients’ vital signs, blood results, BSA, chemotherapy prescriptions, and consents before treatment administration.
- Educate patients on indications and side effects of their treatment.
- Ensure necessary medication and follow‑up appointments are obtained.
Person Specification – Essential
- NMC Registration.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration, or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
- Experience in intravenous drug administration.
- Sufficient post‑registration nursing experience in oncology or a relevant speciality to be confident and competent in required skills.
- Evidence of effective interpersonal skills with ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members.
- Evidence of working cooperatively in a team.
- Ability to demonstrate self‑motivation and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure.
- Ability to make decisions, organise, and prioritise.
- Evidence of commitment to customer care initiatives.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality issues.
- Ability to coordinate as a shift/department.
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the service (e.g., shift work).
Person Specification – Desirable
- Qualification in oncology or speciality.
- Diploma or degree level study (or equivalent).
- Recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience in chemotherapy administration.
- Experience in clinical management.
- Evidence of relevant teaching experience and knowledge of clinical trials management.
- Experience in oncology or area of specialty.
- Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills.
- Evidence of understanding of the NHS Plan and current NHS issues.
- Computer literacy (e.g., use of Microsoft Word and Outlook).
Additional Requirements
- Disclosure & Barring Service Check – post must pass the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
- Current UK professional registration is required.
