Team Leader Mechanical

Responsible to the Estates Manager for all delegated duties related to the management of the Mechanical Engineering Team, undertaking the maintenance function of the Estates department.
To lead, motivate, train and develop the maintenance team, ensuring the effective use of labour and materials to provide an efficient maintenance service for the Estates assets which the Trust are responsible for.
To be included on the On-Call/Escalation Rota, to meet emergency and urgent situations out of core working hours.
To be prepared to respond to emergency work outside core working hours.

Main duties of the job
To manage the Estates Mechanical Engineering Team, External contractors employed by the Trust and to deputise for the Estates Managers as necessary.
To be responsible for performance management issues, sickness absence management, disciplinary and grievance issues, one to one’s and staff appraisals. To ensure satisfactory time keeping, and conduct of staff. Ensure staff records are kept relating to holiday and sickness. To carry out checking of staff time sheets.
Following appropriate training, to become a Trust Authorised Person (AP)
To manage the routine day to day requests for Engineering and Building assistance.
To provide technical advice and liaise with key stakeholders.
To proactively plan, schedule, supervise and monitor the activities of estates department staff and ensure that the productivity and performance of these staff is maximised.
To be included on the Estates On-Call and/or Escalation Rota.
Supervise work that may need to be carried out in periods that are outside of normal working hours. This will from time to time require you to work evenings, nights or weekends in addition to, or as an alternative to your standard working hours. Flexibility is therefore an essential requirement of the position.
To take part in the recruitment of trade staff and to prepare Statutory, Mandatory and basic training plans for the Engineering and Building Estates team.
Carry out any other reasonable request from Estates leadership team.
Job responsibilities
Service Delivery and Improvement
Implement policies and propose changes to practices for the Mechanical Engineering maintenance practices.
Responsibility for Finance and Physical Resources
- Monitors maintenance budgets.
- Maintains and repairs Trust properties.
Responsibility for Information Resources
Responsible for ensuring that the information/operational requirements of the computerised maintenance management system are completed/followed by staff under their control.
Responsibility for Human Resources
Records sickness, absence and annual leave information for Estates Management. Day to day management of in-house maintenance staff and external contractors.
Responsibility for Research and Development
Undertakes Estates condition surveys and audits as necessary.

- Attend mandatory training updates as required.
- Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process.
- Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.

- Participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.

Person Specification
Experience/Qualifications
- Post graduate/diploma or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through courses and experience in construction or engineering subject.
- Professional Knowledge of a full range of trade procedures acquired through a 4 year accredited training course on required equipment; level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills e.g. pneumatics/hydraulics.
- Specialist Knowledge of industrial laundry maintenance.
- Qualifications and experience attained in hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC programming and steam generator control systems.
Communication and Relationship Skills
- Good verbal, written, presentation, report writing and negotiation skills, with the ability to develop, communicate and gain ownership for a clear vision and direction.
- Able to communicate technical information to non-technical persons.
