Job Description

The Noise Strategy Manager is a technical expert on noise and will also be experienced in airport and/or aircraft operations. Primarily reporting into and working with the Senior Noise Strategy Manager, the role will support the drafting, public consultation, delivery and reporting of the Noise Action Plan in compliance with the legislation and associated guidance. The role has a specific focus on technical work across the aviation noise agenda and is responsible for establishing the appropriate network of engagement/collaboration forums with airlines and communities to progress the Noise Action Plan.

Your role will involve

  • Provide technical noise and operations support to colleagues within the Communities & Residential Property team and wider business including in relation to noise impacts associated with airspace change, emerging noise & health research and the effectiveness of noise insulation and mitigation programs.
  • Responsible for the tracking and updating of the noise action plan in support of the delivery governance with advice from the Senior Noise Management Team, ensuring the timely reporting on progress.
  • Ensure close collaboration with the carbon strategy and operational teams – seeking alignment where appropriate on the methods for technical monitoring, forecasting and interpretation/communication.
  • Act as a technical contact point with internal and external stakeholders on noise issues, seeking internal legal advice where necessary to establish and assert Heathrow’s position.
  • Advise and support the operational business units to maintain compliance with all environmental noise and planning regulations and objectives.
  • Provide technical assurance to the Operational Impacts Engagement Lead, to develop communications and engagement tools to enable internal and external stakeholders to understand the role they play in improving noise performance.
  • Support the Senior Noise Management Team in influencing aviation policy and regulation through stakeholder engagement and drafting responses to public consultations.

Skills & qualifications

  • Extensive experience of environmental management generally and specifically aircraft noise, with a technical understanding of acoustics.
  • Good understanding of Heathrow’s strategic agenda and stakeholder management challenges.
  • Broad knowledge of current and future legislation, statutory requirements and good practice relating to HAL’s environmental noise impacts.
  • Experience of working with virtual teams and achieving results through others.
  • Good interpersonal and communication, presentation and influencing skills with attention to detail and a passion for driving business change.
  • Experienced in the development of environmental management plans as applicable to aviation or environmental noise.
  • Experience of data & cost benefit analysis, reporting and presentation for environmental projects and decision making.

Working location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
