Biomedical Support Worker – Higher Level

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to develop skills as a Higher-Level Biomedical Support Worker within the Transplant and Cellular Immunology Laboratory, based at the Centre for Laboratory Medicine, Leeds St. James Hospital.

Main duties

  • Managing Transplant Immunology Sample Reception, assessing all samples upon arrival to determine appropriate testing strategy.
  • Accurately recording all samples using in-house laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Producing in-house reagents, conducting stock and rota monitoring, and maintaining equipment.
  • Preparing blood and tissue samples for analysis.
  • Performing DNA extraction using manual and automated techniques.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified to A-level (or equivalent) standard in science-based subjects.
  • Previous laboratory experience with core skills including pipetting, use of basic equipment, and laboratory health and safety practices.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as in a small team.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
