Consultant Cardiologist – Imaging

This is an exciting opportunity for a 1st rate cardiologist to join our team at the University Hospitals of the North Midlands. This role is suited to consultants with expertise in cardiac imaging and an interest in heart failure or inherited cardiac conditions.
Applicants should have completed their CCT and be on the specialist register.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will contribute to the busy imaging service, providing leadership and clinical guidance for the team of specialist healthcare scientists delivering echocardiography services across the trust and at the new community diagnostic centre. Sessions in cross‑sectional imaging and advanced echocardiography will be available. The postholder will also contribute to the general cardiology on‑call rota (currently 1:11) with inpatient and ward commitments.
If possible, the successful candidate will have a further sub‑specialty interest in either advanced heart failure or inherited cardiac conditions, and will support clinics, MDTs and the growing specialist nurse workforce.
Person Specification
Qualification
- MRCP UK or equivalent
- Full GMC registration (clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for entry on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) – proposed CCT date within 6 months of the interview; Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) – European Community Rights)
- Accreditation by the British Society of Echocardiography, or equivalent (e.g. EACVI)
- Level 3 accreditation in Cardiac MRI or Cardiac CT
- MRCP (I, II and PACS)
- Other higher degree (MD, PhD, Masters)
Experience
- Significant sub‑specialty training in cardiac imaging
- General management of patients with cardiac conditions
- Experience in developing and implementing new technologies or teams in a hospital environment
- Significant experience in delivering heart‑failure or inherited cardiac‑conditions clinics
- Sub‑specialty training in ACHD
Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team
- Attendance at MDT meetings
Academic Achievements, Research, Publications
- Substantial experience in research including recruitment to clinical trials
- Willing to participate in audit programmes
- Publications, presentations and previous audit projects; ICH‑GCP certificate
- Evidence of continuing research

- Good leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership training and experience
- Evidence of implementing change within a department/service
- Willingness to undertake a leadership role
