Position Overview
Senior Process Operator – Process & Pumping department, North Yorkshire (mobile worker). Must live within reasonable commuting distance of Colburn WWTW.
Working hours: 37 hours per week. Local catchment stand‑by rota (1 day in 10, subject to change).
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain and optimise wastewater treatment works ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and Health & Safety.
- Carry out routine operations, sampling, reporting, data analysis and basic maintenance checks to prevent failure.
- Manage and prioritise workload according to available resources.
- Provide operational support to operators and maintenance technicians for standby and absence cover.
- Handle administrative duties including promotion applications, purchase order creation, resource planning and team hub management.
- Take ownership of the site and maintain a safe working environment by implementing and adhering to health and safety procedures, managing contractors via Control of Work, inducting visitors and mitigating hazards.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Practical mindset with enjoyment of outdoor work and hands‑on approach.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and ability to think on feet in the field.
- Attention to detail – right‑first‑time performance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, building effective internal and external relationships.
- Previous experience with IT systems (e.g., Microsoft Word) for capturing site information on a Toughbook or mobile computer.
- Full valid driving licence (B category) with no more than six points; B+E category preferred for towing.
- Must complete occupational health medical including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing and spirometry tests – and pass strict medical criteria.
- Knowledge or experience of wastewater treatment, and/or relevant certificate (CABWI/NVQ/BTEC Level 2/3).
