Job overview

We are looking for someone who has at least 12 months post‑registration experience and is enthusiastic, motivated and committed. Every day is a learning day with 12‑hour shifts; the team values what we do and the work‑life balance it brings.

We have two Emergency Departments, Preston & Chorley, and this advert is for the RPH site, although CDH cover may be required at times.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients in a busy ED environment.
  • Work 12‑hour shifts on a full‑time or part‑time basis (37.5 hours per week).
  • Participate in departmental study days such as triage process, minor injury assessment, acute paediatric care (Preston site), and in‑situ simulation.
  • Support senior staff (Advanced Nurse Clinicians, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, etc.) and work as a team member to influence the future direction of the service.
  • Maintain and improve clinical skills, including medication administration, IV additives, venepuncture and cannulation.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, clinical governance and relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate NMC Registration.
  • Diploma in Nursing.
  • 6 to 12 months post‑registration experience.
  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 18 months commencement in post.
  • Degree (where applicable).
  • Previous Emergency Department experience as a staff nurse.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Recognition of acutely unwell patient – aims course BLS/ILS.
  • Competent in medication administration.
  • General knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Time management and leadership skills.
  • Willing to expand clinical role (IV additives, venepuncture, cannulation).
  • Awareness of changes within Nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and its relevance to practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Manchester triage trained.
  • Level 1 competence in RCN standards.
