Role Overview

Birkbeck, University of London, invites applications for a Demonstrator to join the teaching team in the School of Natural Sciences for the Autumn 2026 term.

Responsibilities

  • Support one or more modules during scheduled teaching periods (October to December 2026).
  • Prepare and deliver practical demonstrations and laboratory sessions.
  • Assist students with learning objectives and facilitate hands‑on activities.
  • Manage teaching preparations, assessments, and administrative duties related to the course.

  • Infectious Bacteria and Antibiotics
  • Specialist Laboratory Research Project
  • Sequence Analysis and Omics
  • Biocomputing
  • The Molecular Basis of Life

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in at least one of the module areas listed above.
  • Qualified to the award level required for teaching or possess equivalent professional/industry experience.

Salary and Contract

Hourly rate of £24.55 per hour (starting rate, Grade 6), inclusive of pro‑rata London Allowance and holiday pay. Contract is fixed‑term, part‑time, from October to December 2026.
