We are seeking Residential Support Workers to help set up our own residential children’s home within the Merthyr Tydfil County Borough. This is an exciting time to join the local authority as we begin to establish a residential arm to support some of the children and young people in our care.

As a Residential Support Worker, you will be integral in providing a safe and secure environment for our children and young people. You will support them to reach their full potential by providing emotional and social support, managing challenging behaviour, and developing an understanding of early childhood trauma and its impact. The role involves supporting, as a staff team, the direct day-to-day care of children in all aspects of their life: daily routines, education attendance, activities, hobbies and community involvement.

You will be expected to undertake domestic and household tasks, attend appointments, and maintain contact with family and friends. The young people are cared for on a 24‑hour basis and you will be required to work some sleep‑in shifts on a rota basis to support this.

For further information please contact Warren Davies at 01685 725000 or email Warren.Davies@merthyr.gov.uk.

You will be required to provide evidence of all qualifications specified as essential.

Application forms can be obtained by calling 01685 725000. As of 09.07.2026, forms must be returned to HR Administration, Civic Centre, Castle Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8AN.
