Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients safely to and from wards, departments, theatres, and A&E using walking, wheelchair, stretcher, or beds.
- Use the task management system (HIVE) and two‑way radio to manage activity within the portering service.
- Convey blood specimens, patient notes, and x‑rays between wards and the Pathology department, following the designated blood tracking system.
- Remove deceased bodies from wards to the mortuary in a safe and dignified manner and assist in viewing when the mortuary technician is absent.
- Accept coroners cases in the mortuary when the mortuary technician is absent and convey deceased patients from ambulance to the mortuary.
- Replace medical gases on wards and departments as required within contracted hours.
- Assist in the transfer of seriously injured patients from ambulance/helicopter to the A&E department.
- Help transport medical supplies and support movement of patients from wards to theatres and vice‑versa after hours (20:00–08:00).
