About The Role
The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality output, and adherence to safety standards. This role involves managing staff, maintaining equipment, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Working location: BYD’s Reading site, RG2 0TG
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise all workshop activities
- Manage and lead a team of technicians, mechanics, or tradespeople
- Allocate tasks and monitor productivity and performance
- Ensure all work is completed to required quality standards
- Maintain workshop equipment, tools, and machinery
- Implement and enforce health and safety procedures
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering of materials and parts
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and other departments
- Prepare reports on operations, performance, and costs
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide hands‑on support when required
Your profile
- Proven experience in a workshop or technical environment
- Previous supervisory or management experience
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Good technical knowledge relevant to the industry (e.g., automotive, engineering, manufacturing)
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving abilities
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills (e.g., inventory or job tracking systems)
- Forklift license (desirable but not always required)
- Right to work in the UK
