Job Overview
The Materials Management Operative is a customer-facing role requiring a strong customer service work ethic and commitment to always being proactive and positive. The role involves working as part of a team to operate the Trust’s goods inwards / outwards systems for delivering goods to Wards and Departments. The post holder will assist customers who come to the Main Stores, checking goods received against delivery documents and picking and packing supplies as per requisitions received from Services within the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
To work as part of the Materials Management team to carry out:
- Receipting and distribution of all goods ordered.
- Review stock levels and manage stock inventory in line with clinical activity.
- Scan, order and put away goods as per the schedule.
This role requires the post holder to be physically fit.

Monday to Friday (7.5 hour shifts), core hours are between 7–5.
Internal Contacts
The post holder will be in daily contact with ward and service managers and staff within the hospital, including:
- Procurement – Clinical Specialists, Contracts Team, Customer Services.
- Divisional team engagement.
- Ward review meetings.
- H&S to include Major Incident.
- Finance – e‑Financials Systems Team, Accounts Payable.
- Other hospital services including Facilities, Estates.
- All levels of Trust staff.
External Contacts (if applicable)
- Goods receiving staff and NHS Logistics teams.
- Suppliers (inc. couriers).
- External NHS bodies as relevant.
- Members of the public.
- Other NHS Organisations and other Public Services.
