Litigation Solicitor – 3+ PQE
Overview
Leading law firm looking to recruit dedicated and experienced Litigation Solicitors (3 PQE) for a highly sought permanent position. The client serves corporate entities and private individuals in over 25 practice areas from offices throughout London and across England and Wales. The firm is recognised in The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as a top-tier firm. It holds Investors in People Gold Accreditation, LEXCEL, Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO accreditation, and is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Litigation Department
The Litigation department assists with a wide range of challenging and complex property dispute matters. The team advises a broad range of clients including institutional landlords, developers and private individuals, ensuring that the advice given is tailored to the specific needs of each client.
Expertise areas include:
- Landlords and tenant disputes
- Dilapidations
- Property disrepair
- Party wall and boundary disputes
- Professional negligence
- Right of way disputes
- Construction disputes
- Ownership of property disputes
Main Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Department Director
- Adopt a professional proactive approach, strong client care skills and a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients’ needs
- Responsible for all aspects of litigation work and, where appropriate, providing technical expertise and guidance to other team members
- Manage appropriate caseload types and complexities
- Attend clients, take instructions and prepare cases
- Handle correspondence
- Maintain accurate time‑costing procedures
- Implement recommendations made by the supervisor following monthly file reviews, ensuring they are dealt with promptly
- Ensure compliance with file management
Key Tasks
- Boundary disputes – resolving disagreements between neighbours about property lines.
- Landlord and tenant issues – dealing with rent arrears, lease breaches, eviction proceedings and lease renewals.
- Rights of way and easements – advising on access rights and usage of land.
- Nuisance and trespass claims – acting where someone’s use of their property interferes with another’s.
- Disputes over property ownership – handling cases such as co‑ownership disagreements or claims under trusts.
- Development issues – disputes related to property development, including restrictive covenants and planning.
- Disrepair – acting for landlord and tenant.
- Mortgage repossessions
- Commercial property matters – lease‑related matters such as dilapidations, arrears of rents, lease forfeiture.
Key Skills Required
- 3 years+ PQE with proven experience of various litigation work, including court representation (essential)
- Must have a clean, valid practising certificate at the time of applying
- Committed team player who adapts well to new challenges
- Professional with a proactive approach, excellent client‑care skills and the ability to handle client matters sensitively and resolve complicated practicalities
- Excellent networking and communication skills to market the firm and generate new business
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills
- Ability to use own initiative and sound judgment
- Working knowledge of publicly funded litigation work and the ability to service privately funded cases
- Extensive experience in dealing with probate litigation related work
- Experience in own advocacy is an advantage
- Excellent IT skills – familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management
