Overview

Boghall Drop-In Centre supports the local community by providing a safe, welcoming space where people of all ages can connect, grow, and thrive. Every day, the centre makes a positive and lasting difference in the lives of those it serves.

The role

We are looking for an adult youth worker volunteer to make a difference in young people’s lives by providing play activities for children from Primary 4 to S2 during our after-school clubs and school holidays. Our volunteers should encourage the children to get involved in a range of activities and be willing to actively take part.

We’re looking for volunteers who:

  • Are passionate about working with children and young people.
  • Can establish positive relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Feel confident starting conversations and engaging young people in small games and activities.
  • Can build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Can multi‑task and respond to the needs of young people.
  • Can work effectively with children and young people of diverse backgrounds in small and large groups.
  • Are creative, enthusiastic, confident, and resilient.
  • Will adhere to policies and procedures at all times, with particular attention to equality and diversity, health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection.
  • Are committed to ensuring the safety and well‑being of children attending the club.

Please Note: As this role involves working directly with children, all volunteers must undergo PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) checks.

What you’ll gain from volunteering in this role:

  • Induction training to help you get started.
  • Ongoing support and supervision.
  • The opportunity to build connections with young people and make a real difference in their lives.
  • A chance to be part of a passionate, dynamic team.
  • Valuable experience in planning, evaluating, and reflecting on youth work activities.

Activities you may be involved in:

  • Helping to set up and tidy away activities.
  • Supporting staff and fellow volunteers during sessions.
  • Encouraging participation and engagement from children and young people.
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for all attendees.
