Catering Assistant
Pay: £12,189.80 – £12,599.33 per annum based on 22 hours per week, 37 weeks per year.
Hours: 22 hours per week, 37 weeks per year. Shift: 8:00 am – 1:30 pm, Monday‑Thursday.
Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation and basic cooking.
- Prepare and maintain dining and serving areas to a clean, presentable standard.
- Serve food and drinks, including barista‑style coffee.
- Ensure stock is checked, rotated and replenished; report low stock and assist with deliveries and stock takes.
- Provide friendly, attentive customer service and support learners’ needs.
- Carry out cashier duties where required.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety (including HACCP and allergen awareness).
- Follow health and safety regulations at all times.
- Open and close the service area as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
- Take part in monthly and end‑of‑year stock checks.
Qualifications & Checks
- Enhanced DBS check and enhanced DBS check fee paid by applicant.
- Two references, one must be your current or most recent employer.
- Qualification validation check for any required qualifications.
- Minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, diversity and GDPR principles.
Employment Conditions
- Annual leave: 25 days, plus 8 public holidays and 5 concessionary days (may increase to 30 days after 2 years continuous service).
- Pension: Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Probationary period: 6 months, with mandatory induction and training in equality, safeguarding, health & safety and cyber security.
- First aid and fire marshal duties may be required.
- All staff must comply with health and safety, food safety and agency regulations.
