Overview
Our residents are at the heart of everything we do at the Meath Epilepsy Charity. With person‑centred planning we make sure that everyone remains focused on achieving their goals and maintaining their independence as much as possible. The charity, CQC rated GOOD, is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Support Worker to join our warm and friendly team. We require team players with excellent communication skills who want to deliver a high level of care and support, whilst maintaining safety standards at all times in line with company policies. Previous experience of care work is essential and full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care of all aspects of residents’ assessed needs in line with their care plan.
- Assist the manager with team management and organise the team in their absence.
- Supervise and manage support workers and bank staff, including appraisals, supervisions, and inductions where appropriate.
- Support other senior staff and assist in the implementation of management decisions.
- Follow all policies and procedures.
- Assist individual residents with personal care as needed.
- Administer and store prescribed medication in line with legislation.
- Assist residents with mobility where appropriate.
- Help residents feed themselves and assist with serving, preparation of meals and drinks.
- Ensure each resident receives a well‑balanced diet.
- Communicate relevant information about residents to team members so that care plans may be regularly updated and appropriate care given.
- Report immediately to the senior staff in charge any accidents or untoward incidents involving residents, staff or visitors.
- Be aware of steps to take in line with Safeguarding Adults at Risk policies if an allegation of abuse is witnessed or made by you.
- Follow medication procedures, including asking a senior member of staff to administer any prescribed drug such as analgesics, laxatives or diazepam.
- Attend 1:1 supervision meetings with your line manager every six weeks.
- Follow reasonable instructions given by your line manager, manager or senior manager as required.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks that may be required.
- Be conversant with and implement Meath policies and procedures.
Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
- Ability to communicate with the general public, trustees, professional bodies and all other parties on behalf of The Meath both in writing and verbally.
- Excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel and other operating systems.
- Take responsibility and work well independently as well as part of a team.
- Flexible, reliable and punctual.
- Willingness to attend and participate in relevant training to maintain high operational and safety standards.
- High degree of confidentiality with regard to all matters at The Meath.
Desirable:
- Awareness of CQC requirements and holding a relevant Health and Social Care qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care (preferred).
- Two years in a supervisory care role.
