Youth Support Worker in Charge

Salary and Hours

£29,644 per annum progressing to £33,066 per annum (pro rata for part time). Part‑time (18.5 hours per week) including four 2.5‑hour evenings during term time with flexible daytime hours; additional hours often available.

Overview

Lead a small team of 4–5 Youth Support Workers and Volunteers to plan, deliver and evaluate curriculum‑based group projects, while providing one‑to‑one support to vulnerable and at‑risk young people aged 11–17 to improve their future prospects. Handle safeguarding and health and safety issues, and address service users’ needs to help them overcome challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of youth support workers and volunteers.
  • Plan and deliver curriculum‑based group work projects for young people.
  • Provide one‑to‑one support to vulnerable and at‑risk young people aged 11–17.
  • Handle safeguarding procedures and health and safety responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with partner organisations and forge relationships.
  • Maintain accurate records and use IT effectively for booking and reporting.
  • Participate in ongoing training, development and reviews.

Requirements

  • Experience in youth work either paid or voluntary, with a readiness for career advancement.
  • Strong IT, record‑keeping, organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with partner organisations.
  • Registered or willing to obtain a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; provision of a sign language interpreter if required.
  • Capacity to drive or travel within Hertfordshire, using own transport or company vehicle.
