Job Summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed nurses to join our existing professional neonatal team in a busy level two unit with 22 cots, including 4 intensive care cots, 5 high‑dependency cots and 13 special‑care cots. The unit is part of the South London Perinatal Network and offers ongoing professional development with the opportunity to gain a Qualified in Specialty (QIS) qualification in neonatology.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 24 hour care to preterm and critically ill babies covering a range of conditions including prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, jaundice and hypoglycaemia.
  • Work across the neonatal unit and transitional care, promoting a friendly and supportive atmosphere for patients and families through family‑integrated care (FiCare).
  • Participate in the admission‑to‑discharge process, working closely with the consultant, dietician, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist and other MDT members to ensure a seamless, timely discharge.
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff, student nurses and student midwives.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Valid registration as an RN/RSCN/RM.
  • Experience in a neonatal unit and willingness to undertake the required training within six months.
  • Pre‑registration or post‑registration neonatal/paediatric nursing experience (desirable).
  • ENB 997/998 and neonatal courses such as ENB Course 405 (desirable).
  • Evidence of continued professional development (desirable).

Skills

  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Occupational health clearance to meet the needs of the role.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and duties.
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding issues.
  • Experience of working with staff and patients from diverse cultural backgrounds (desirable).
  • IT/computer skills (desirable).

Contract and Remuneration

Band 5, fixed‑term contract for 8 months, full‑time, with a salary range of £36,943 to £44,900 a year pro rata, per annum including HCAS (Outer). Pay scheme: Agenda for Change.
