Deputy Head of Building Control (Class 3 Specialist)

Salary: £71,713 per annum

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Building Control to join a forward-thinking local authority. This is a senior leadership role where you will help deliver a high-quality Building Control service, ensuring developments meet regulatory standards for safety, sustainability, and design.
You will support the Head of Building Control in leading the service, managing a team of inspectors, and overseeing complex and high-risk projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support a team of Building Inspectors, including Specialist and Trainee Inspectors
- Carry out technical assessments and ensure compliance with relevant building legislation
- Oversee complex and high-risk building projects, including plan checks and site inspections
- Lead engagement with the Building Safety Regulator and other stakeholders
- Handle enforcement matters, including dangerous structures and unauthorised works
- Contribute to committee responses, MDT working, and service performance reporting
- Represent the Council in legal proceedings where required
- Deputise for the Head of Building Control when necessary
Requirements
- Significant experience within Building Control at a senior level
- Registered Building Inspector (Class 3) or equivalent level of competence
- Strong understanding of relevant UK building legislation and safety frameworks
- Experience managing complex projects and high-risk buildings
- Leadership and team management experience
- Chartered status or working towards membership of a relevant professional body
