Mechanical and Electrical Project Manager

Within our MEP division, the engineering team plays a crucial role in the day-to-day delivery of planned works across a diverse range of properties and systems within large Mechanical, Plumbing & Electrical contracts.

Role Overview

Position: We are seeking an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Project Manager to lead the delivery of mechanical and electrical services on a 179-unit residential development in Guildford. The role involves full on-site responsibility for mechanical and electrical installations from first fix through to commissioning and handover, ensuring high-quality delivery in line with programme and budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all mechanical and electrical installations across 179 residential units, including: Domestic heating systems (ASHP), Ventilation systems (MVHR/MEV), Plumbing and public health services, LV systems.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of the project: first fix, second fix, testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Coordinate with main contractor, site management team, and other trades to maintain programme.
  • Supervise subcontractors and direct labour on-site.
  • Ensure compliance with UK building regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Monitor progress, track milestones, and report on programme status.
  • Manage quality inspections, snagging, and defect resolution.
  • Oversee commissioning processes and ensure systems are fully operational.
  • Support procurement and ensure timely delivery of materials and plant.
  • Attend and lead site meetings with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing mechanical and electrical packages on residential developments (ideally 100+ units).
  • Strong knowledge of Domestic plumbing & heating systems, LV Electrical systems, Ventilation systems (MVHR/MEV), Apartment block plant rooms.
  • Experience delivering projects from pre-construction through to handover.
  • Good understanding of UK Building Regulations (Part L, Part F, etc.).
  • SMSTS certification.
  • CSCS (Black or Gold card preferred).
  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering / Building Services (HNC/HND/Degree).
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with high-rise or multi-block residential schemes.
  • Knowledge of district heating / communal systems.
  • Familiarity with QA software (e.g., Field View, SnagR).
  • Experience working with housing developers or main contractors.
