Job Summary

Grade D – £45,091 – £53,460. 36.5 hours per week. This role offers an opportunity to join a progressive legal service within Birmingham City Council, working on housing disrepair, community safety, homelessness and general housing management matters. You will be a leading local government lawyer, supported by a team of paralegals and supervised by Principal Lawyers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a legal advisor, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and protecting the best interests of the Council.
  • Prepare, negotiate and advise on all aspects of legal cases.
  • Attend courts, tribunals, public inquiries and other meetings, undertaking advocacy where required.
  • Represent the Council in negotiations, discussions and when instructing external legal services.
  • Conduct and manage a wide-ranging caseload of straightforward and complex legal and advice work.
  • Prepare reports for and attend committees, sub-committees and the Executive Committee as needed.
  • Support the Legal Services Management Team in meeting practice management requirements and maintaining high service standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

Current practising certificate as a Solicitor/Chartered Legal Executive, or membership of the Bar with completed pupillage/registered Fellowship of the Institute of Legal Executives. Experience in a local authority or private practice is required.
