Position

Bank Cook based at University Hospital Crosshouse, permanent basis.

Hours

As and when required between 0630-1830 Monday to Sunday. Hours per week vary. From 1 April 2026 the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced; full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours pro rata for part‑time staff without loss of earnings.

What you will do

  • Provide in excess of 1800 patient‑prepared and cooked meals daily, including therapeutic diets for patients.
  • Serve meals to staff and visitors.
  • Cater and provide hospitality for meetings and functions.
  • Prepare, cook and serve meals, including any required therapeutic diets.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene.
  • Record and monitor data required by our food safety assurance system (HACCP).
  • Be available to cover shifts between 0630 and 1830, including weekends.
  • Attend a corporate induction program before commencement of employment.
  • Participate in an ongoing program of mandatory and statutory training.

Knowledge, training and experience required

  • Experience in a large‑scale catering environment.
  • City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or an NVQ qualification.
  • Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.

Right to Work / Sponsorship

To work in the United Kingdom you must have a legal right to work. This is granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. You are responsible for providing evidence of your right to work or confirming the post would be eligible for sponsorship before submitting your application. NHS Ayrshire & Arran may be able to offer visa sponsorship for certain roles where the post meets the minimum salary threshold and any other required criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis following interview and at the commencement of pre‑employment checks. We are unable to provide sponsorship for Band 2 posts or bank contracts.
